Toshiba’s Enterprise SSD Promises Excellent Performance
A lot of things are happening in the SSD industry right now. For one, Toshiba is making an entry into the enterprise side of the market with the new model Mkx001grzb, which promises excellent server performance. It will have to–a name like “mkx001gzrb” will hardly inspire potential customers on its own.
At any rate, this is the first flash drive that from the manufacturer with a focus on high-end servers and data centers. Toshiba’s figures are impressive; It is said to be the fastest 6GBps SAS drive on the market today and can read data at 510MB per second (maximum).
Write operations occur at speed of up to 230 megabytes per second. The number of inputs and output operations per second (IOPS) are up to 90,000 (read) and 17,000 (write).
Its form factor is 2.5 inches and storage capacities are 100, 200 and 400 gigabytes, depending on the model. Life expectancy is estimated at five years.
The Toshiba Mkx001grzb will be shipped to select manufacturers for evaluation in the first quarter of 2011 before it enters mass production in the first half of 2011. No prices have been revealed yet.
