Intel SSD 750 (PCIe 3.0) Fastest Ever for Desktop PCs, According to Intel

by: admin Monday, April 6th, 2015

High-end SSDs have been saturating the aging SATA 6 Gbps interface for quite some time. Consequently, the only alternative for those who require faster storage using the SATA interface are risky RAID 0 setups or less risky but more expensive RAND 5/10 configurations. Using the PCI Express interface eliminates these issues altogether. Intel claims that its new SSD 750 is the fastest solution ever for consumer PCs.

intel750The new 750 drives use the NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) standard, which is specifically designed for storage but has been a long time coming. Capacities range from 400 GB to 1.2 TB in either a 2.5” or half-height expansion card form factor. By using four lanes of PCIe 3.0, the SSD 750 will offer very impressive speeds indeed – up to 2,400 MB/s sequential read and 2,200 MB/s sequential write speeds. (A full review of the 750 is available on HotHardware.com).

Needless to say, the new speedy drives won’t be overly budget-friendly, starting at $470 for the 400 GB model. The 1.2 TB variant will set you back no less than $1,200. On the other hand this is relatively cheap compared to enterprise-class SSDs. For example, an 800 GB Intel SSD DC P3700 retails for about $2,500.

If you are looking for something a bit more affordable, Intel is concurrently launching a new SATA-based lineup. The new Intel SSD 535 series will arrive in standard 2.5-inch and M.2 form factors, in capacities ranging from 120 GB to 480 GB, with up to 540 MB/s read speeds and 490 MB/s write speeds (sequential).

The 750 series is a beast… A lot of people don’t know the true potential once you unlock the non NVME SSD’s and overclock a little….

Why pay $1000 for a pro 960 NVME when I can get twice those speeds with my Samsung 750 Evo.

I will keep my cheap $100 SSD.
