New External USB 3.0 SSD from Super Talent

by: admin Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012

supertalentExternal hard drives are mostly used for backup purposes, mainly because their performance hasn’t been up to speed. But with the advent of USB 3.0 in combination with speedy SSDs, there is ample cause for reconsidering this usage pattern for the external drive.

The brand new Storage Pod Mini from Super Talent is an example of an external solid-state drive that delivers more than enough performance for your workstation, and might be the perfect solution for bringing large amounts of data from work to your home PC or vice versa. At most it can deliver up to 260 megabytes per second transfer rate when reading. The maximum speed when writing is 174 megabytes per second. This is faster than most USB 2.0 external hard drives by a factor of 10.

The disk is of 2.5 inches and measures 110 x 68 x 10 millimeters which, as Super Talent points out, is about the same size as a 2.5-inch drive without the enclosure. The enclosure is entirely made out of aluminum and you connect it via USB 3.0. Super Talent’s Storage Pod Mini is available in 60GB, 120GB and 240GB capacities.
