OCZ Acquires Indilinx
OCZ recently decided to drop out of the RAM market to go “all-in” with their solid state drive venture. It seemed like a wise desicion, since the company has been making a killing with their SSDs lately.
The latest news is that they are aiming for complete control of the manufaturing process by buying the SSD controller manufacturer Indilinx – primarily known for their popular Barefoot silicon.
OCZ has been at the forefront of SSD technology ever since it became a viable option as a hard drive replacement, so the fact that they are now looking to expand into the controller field is hardly a surprise.
One question that comes to mind is what will happen to the company’s seemingly tight affiliation with SandForce, one of Indilinx’ competitors. SandForce controllers currently power the most popular drives in OCZs lineup, including the Vertex 2 and Vertex 3 series.
