Twice the speed of your old 7,200rpm Drive with a G3 SSD from SanDisk
Sandisk’s new SSDs are called G3 and come in 60 and 120GB variants. They are aimed at consumers and DIY enthusiasts and according to the press release they are robust enough to tolerate up to 80TB of subsequent writes, which in theory means roughly 10 years of average use.
The drives use the Sandisk Extreme FFS algorithm to spread data sufficiently arbitrarily on the drive, resulting in a longer life span. They are apparently tested to withstand a steady stream of vibrations – something that is corroborated by a 10 year warranty.
The interesting parts: The Sandisk SSD G3 writes up to 220MB/s and writes up to 120MB/s. In all, that should be more than sufficient to back up Sandisk’s claim that it’s twice as fast as a regular 7,200rpm hard drive.
Furthermore, the G3 supports TRIM in Windows 7 G3 and is compatible with Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Windows XP, Vista and Linux.
